Sports in California

Far more than any other US state, sports in California include more than twenty major professional sports franchises. Even though The Greater Los Angeles area is home to ten major-league franchises, it is the largest metropolitan area without a team in the National Football League. Sacramento has one major-league team and San Diego has two. The San Francisco Bay Area has nine major-league teams spread amongst three cities: San Jose, Oakland and San Francisco.
