If you go to Balboa Fun Zone expecting a fun-filled day of rides and entertainment, you're going to be disappointed. If you go knowing that this is a small place with not a lot going on, you might enjoy it more. The Ferris Wheel will run you about three dollars and the ride itself is pretty long. It's probably the highlight of the zone. In my opinion, it goes around too fast and should be slowed down just a bit. Its actually nice when the ride stops to pick up more passengers as this gives you the opportunity to sit and really get a good look at the view. |
There is a lot to see from up there and the view is fantastic. Overall, it's a classic ride! Riders must be at least 50 inches tall to ride without an adult 18+. Besides the Ferris Wheel, there is an arcade which is probably the next highlight, other little kiddie rides, a few shops with lots of trinkety stuff, plenty of people-watching and the parking sucks! What can I say, the lot is way too small. The whole place could really use a face-lift. It just seems like it has so much potential to really draw in the crowds. I think Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier has a lot more going on and much better parking. |
Take a Tiki Boat Tour. Or a Harbor Cruise. Or check out one of the eateries here. I do have to say, they are tempting! Pizza, Salt-Water Taffy, Frozen Bananas and Balboa Bars, which by the way are so big you could share one easily! |
Boat rentals are available at Balboa Boat Rentals. They offer a variety of different boats that you can rent out by the hour or by the day, depending on the boat. They've got electric boats, kyaks, stand-up paddle boards, sailboats, parasailing, pedal boats, pontoon boats and power boats. |
So grab a cold one, enjoy the Arcade, the Ferris Wheel, the Museum, the little restaurants, then just sit back, relax and watch the sailboats and yachts go by!
Sounds pretty relaxing to me! Want more? Take the ferry ride over to Balboa Island where you'll find more shops and things to do. Or if you'd like, it is a pretty easy walk along the water.
